I’m delighted to finally share details of the newest model now available in the McNally guitars lineup. The ‘SD’
This is my modern take on the classic Slope Shoulder Dreadnought. I’ve made the shape a little curvier in places, but the fundamental proportions of the design are unchanged.
The main difference from an SD versus a traditional dreadnought is the scale length. Here we have a shorter 24.9” which reduces the string tension, giving a warm & woody tone, as well as increased playability. The tone naturally leans more vintage, particularly in its most natural wood combination of Spruce and Mahogany.
A sunburst and pickguard would be highly recommended for this model to complete the traditional look. I can’t really imagine the guitar without them to be honest!
The first of this new model was made for Odhrán Murphy who has kindly Demo’d it in session, showing the SD in its element as a songwriter’s companion…
